Yes. Jungle, the AI study app at jungleai.com, has a free plan you can keep using for as long as you like. It includes new generations every month, it has no ads, and everything you make stays in your account to study. Paid plans remove the monthly limit and take longer documents.
This guide explains what the free plan includes, where its limits are, what the paid plans (Pro and Elite) add, and how to try Jungle before you decide.

What you get on the free plan
A free account uses the same app as a paid one, with limits on how much new material you can make:
- New generations every month. A generation is a set of practice questions Jungle writes from your material. Upload a PDF, PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx), Word file, image, audio or video file, or paste a YouTube link, a web page or a Google Docs link.
- Your choice of questions. Multiple choice, true / false and free response at basic difficulty, and advanced difficulty, which includes case questions, on a limited number of generations each month. You pick how many questions you want (low, medium or high, with an estimate before you start) and the language of the questions.
- Explanations. Ask Jungle to explain any answer. The free plan includes a limited number of explanations each hour.
- A daily review. The questions you miss come back in a daily review (spaced repetition) until you get them right.
- Everything you made, kept. You can keep answering your questions and doing your daily review after you have used the month's generations.
- No ads.
- Web, iPhone and Android. The same account works on all three.
You can also edit or delete any question, add your own, and record a limited number of lectures each month.
Where the free plan stops
The limits are on making new material, not on studying what you already have:
- Generations per month. Once the month's generations are used, you can't make a new set until the next month unless you upgrade.
- Document length. Each document has a page limit, and each video a length limit, on the free plan.
- Advanced questions and exam styles. Advanced difficulty (including case questions) is limited to a set number of generations a month, and so are question styles modeled on exams like USMLE Step 1.
- Explanations per hour. After the hour's explanations, you wait for the next hour.
The exact numbers are on the pricing page. They are not repeated here because they can change.
What Pro and Elite add
Jungle has two paid plans. Pro includes:
- unlimited generations, on longer documents
- more questions per generation
- unlimited advanced difficulty questions, including case questions
- unlimited explanations
- export of your cards to Anki
- unlimited lecture recordings
Elite includes everything in Pro, and:
- a boost in question quality
- question style templates for exams like USMLE Step 1 and the MCAT, without a monthly limit
- automatic image occlusion, which hides the labels on the diagrams in your slides so you can quiz yourself on them
- unlimited calls with monkey, Jungle's voice tutor (other plans have a weekly limit)
- control over the size of your daily review
Both are billed monthly or yearly. See pricing for the current prices; your local price is shown before you pay.
Is Jungle a free AI flashcard app?
Yes, if what you want is for the AI to make the cards. Instead of typing cards yourself, you upload your lecture slides, notes or a video and Jungle writes the questions, with one right answer and wrong choices that sound right. In a blind comparison of five AI study tools, Jungle's questions scored highest for believable wrong answer choices (69, against 56 for the next tool). That matters because a question you can answer by ruling out silly options doesn't test much.

Jungle can also turn a document into notes with a chat beside them, where you can ask for a simpler version, an analogy or a mnemonic, and copy or share the notes. If you are comparing free flashcard apps, is Quizlet free? covers what Quizlet's free plan includes.
Should you stay on the free plan?
The free plan is enough if you need a new set only now and then, your files fit within the page limit, and most of your studying is going back over what you have already made. The daily review keeps working either way.
Pro is worth it if you upload every lecture, study from long PDFs or textbook chapters, want case questions on every set, or use Anki and want to export your cards.
Elite is worth it if you are preparing for an exam Jungle has a question style for, such as USMLE Step 1 or the MCAT, or you want unlimited calls with monkey and the higher question quality.
A simple test: use the free plan for one exam. If you run out of generations before you run out of material, upgrade.
How to try Jungle for free
- Open Jungle on the web, or get the iPhone or Android app.
- Upload your material. A PDF, PowerPoint, Word file, image, audio or video file, or a YouTube, web page or Google Docs link.
- Choose your questions. How many, which types, basic or advanced difficulty, and the language.
- Answer them. You see right away what you got right, and you can ask for an explanation of any answer. Delete the questions you don't want, edit the wording, or add your own.
- Come back for your daily review. The questions you missed come back until you know them.

To make a full mock exam from your notes, see the practice exam generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is Jungle completely free?
Jungle has a free plan you can use without paying, with limits: a set number of new generations each month, a page limit per document and a limited number of explanations each hour. Pro and Elite are paid plans that remove those limits.
Is the Jungle app free?
Yes. The iPhone and Android apps use the same account as the website, so the free plan works in the apps too.
Does Jungle have ads?
No. There are no ads on the free plan or the paid plans.
What happens when I run out of free generations?
Nothing you made is lost. You can keep answering your questions and doing your daily review, and new generations come with the next month. If you need more before then, upgrade to Pro or Elite.
Can I export to Anki on the free plan?
No. Exporting cards to Anki is part of the paid plans.
Does the free plan work for exams like the NCLEX or the ATI TEAS?
Yes. Jungle has no question bank for those exams, but on any plan it writes practice questions from your own notes. See NCLEX practice questions and the ATI TEAS practice test.
